CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older should receive a flu vaccination

The CDC has recommended that everybody of age 6 months and above must get a flu vaccination every year. Pamela Prindle, Foxhall Internists’ immunization clinic director called it quite troubling.

This year, the flu vaccine is likely to be 60% effective. It’s likely that all the people who got vaccinated against flu this year have directly contributed to herd immunity. It is an idea that the more members of a population are immune, the less will be the chances that the ones who are at more risk will get infection.

The disease is apparently following a more normal pattern now. While speaking to KREM-TV, Dr. Dave Hylsky of the Panhandle Health District, where the casualty was reported, said that immunization must be a priority for every Idaho family.

Earth’s lakes may take a devastating hit from climate change, report researchers

In a latest study, researchers have reported that lakes on the Earth could take a devastating hit from climate change. Quickly warming waters in freshwater bodies, consisting of many Great Lakes and a number of reservoirs, trigger dangerous algae blooms that will eventually threaten local ecosystems’ freshwater supplies.

For the study, a group of researchers led by Catherine O'Reilly from Illinois State University analyzed huge data. They evaluated satellite temperature data and long-term ground measurements based on 235 lakes, which stores Earth’s 50% fresh surface water supply.

Curiosity’s discovery of tridymite at Buckskin may be evidence for evolution of volcanoes on Mars

NASA’s robotic detective Curiosity has come across a couple of intriguing discoveries three years after it began exploring The Red Planet. Scientists could get some help from these discoveries in completing the puzzle of how water formed, moved, and then either froze or has left Mars.

In the past few months, for the first time, Curiosity has discovered the rock-forming chemical silica in abundance. It is a mineral that contains silicon and oxygen and, is generally deposited by water on earth.

Jens Frydenvang an astro-geologist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico of the discoveries in a short video said that they don’t have complete understanding of what this means, so far.
