NYC to distribute free portable kit with condoms, lubricant and a section for pills early next year

A 22-year-old black man, who has recently been diagnosed with HIV, went to a clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital in summer 2014, where a Demetre Daskalakis, an infectious disease specialist, attended him. The specialist would become the assistant commissioner of New York City’s HIV and AIDS prevention unit, soon.

The patient was attentive regarding his own care, and even took along a container that seems like a little oversize cosmetics compact. The container included neatly held the city-issued condoms, lubricant and his HIV medications.

Dr. Demetre told him recently that he thought that the patient was already aware of everything. He captured a photograph of the case and, sent the photograph to an industrial designer on joining the health department.

France passes bill aimed at banning use of super skinny fashion models

On Thursday, France passed a bill aiming at prohibiting the use of super skinny models in the fashion industry. Under the bill, the models will have to obtain a medical approval by doctors to work in the industry.

The French National Assembly’s passed law wants models to visit a doctor, and asks for photographs that have been edited to change the appearance of a model to carry a caption that indicates the alteration. BBC News reported that the aim of the law is to do away with the use of ‘excessively thin’ models.

32 More US Hospitals to Settle Allegations over False Spinal Fracture Treatment

More than two dozen hospitals in the US will pay approximately $28 million in order to settle claims that they mischarged Medicate, officials at the United States Department of Justice announced Friday.

The Justice Department said the 32 hospitals located in 15 US states billed false claims to Medicare for a spinal fracture treatment, called kyphoplasty. “The guilty hospitals frequently submitted false bills to Medicare for inpatient stays following a procedure known as kyphoplasty, a treatment for certain spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis”, the department explained.

Ohio saw Second-Highest Number of Drug Overdose Deaths In 2014

A study from the Centers for disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that was released on Friday showed that Ohio ranks second in the United States in terms of death from drug overdose.

The report showed that there was around one death every three hours last year in Ohio. On the other hand, in Kentucky there were more than 1,000 deaths, revealed report.

This data puts Ohio and Kentucky among the five states with the highest rates of drug overdose deaths as measured per 100,000 residents.

In order to cope with this issue, the Butler County Commissioners have planned to announce on Monday that they are forming a new opiate task force to address drug addiction.
