Scientists said they have spotted a tiny shark swimming in the deep ocean off the coast of Central America. The creature is so tiny that it could fit in your hand, according to the scientists.

The shark, dubbed as Etmopterus benchleyi, was found in 2010 when a group of researchers was on an expedition off the Central American coastline on the Pacific Ocean side. Since its discovery, scientists could know only a few things about the tiny creature that prefers to live in the darkest parts of the ocean.

A giant squid, also known as an Architeuthis squid, stunned people by making its way into Toyama Bay of Japan on Christmas Eve. The creature swam beneath boats for hours before disappearing into water.

People who were treated to the rate sighting of the creature captured it on their cameras and posted it on social media. A submersible camera captured a video of the squid close to the surface of Toyama Bay. Akinobu Kimura, a diver and owner of Diving Shop Kaiyu, swam alongside the red-and-white creature before it went back to open water.

This was the third time when a giant squid was caught on video as the first giant creature was filmed three years back. As per the spectators, the squid was about 12 feet long, shorter than the longest squid of 43 feet long.

The world may have a dengue vaccine soon as Sanofi Pasteur has received approval from the Mexican government to market the first ever dengue vaccine that can prevent the fastest growing mosquito-borne disease in the world today.

In a press release, Swiftwater vaccine maker Sanofi informed that its tetravalent dengue vaccine Dengvaxia is capable of helping patients with the mosquito-borne disease caused by all four dengue virus types. “In two studies, the vaccine reduced dengue from all four viral variations in two-thirds of the participants. It also showed that the vaccine prevented 9 out of 10 cases of severe dengue and 8 out 10 hospitalizations due to dengue in this age group”, as per the company.

This year’s flu season has gotten off to a much slower start than past some years, according to Pennsylvania Department of Health. By this time last year, there were thousands of people suffering from flu, but this time, flu has treaded lightly.

This year, from the start of flu season to December 19, Pennsylvania has about 492 confirmed cases of the flu, including two deaths, as per reports of the state Department of Health. The figure is just a fraction of last year’s thousands of confirmed cases in the same period.

The chief medical officer of the UK has issued a warning that one of the oldest sexually transmittable diseases in the world is likely to eventually become untreatable. The BBC reported that Dame Sally Davies said that Gonorrhoea may become untreatable, and has written to pharmacies and GPs to make sure they prescribe the right drugs for it.

She became concerned about the disease after cases of ‘super-gonorrhoea’ emerged in Leeds previously this year.
