Zardari could lose public support if judges not reinstated, says Nawaz
Lahore, June 21 : PML-N leader and former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif has said that PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was at the risk of losing popularity among the countrymen if he failed to honour the Murree Accord to reinstate judges fired by President Pervez Musharraf.
He insisted that the sacked judges should be reinstated through a parliamentary resolution, as mentioned in the Murree agreement, and not through a constitutional amendment as proposed by the PPP-led federal government.
“The Murree Declaration clearly speaks of the reinstatement of the judges through a parliamentary resolution and not through a constitutional amendment that Zardari has sent us,” the Daily Times quoted Nawaz as saying.
He added that Zardari’s proposal (of reinstating sacked judges through a constitutional amendment) will ‘tantamount to accepting Musharraf’s unconstitutional actions of November 3”. (ANI)
