Tobacco To Kill 6 Million People Annually By 2010According to "Tobacco Atlas", which released on Monday (March 09), tobacco usage will kill six million people annually by 2010, and drain $500 billion from the worldwide economy that exceeds the total combined annual expenditure on health in all low and middle income nations.

The atlas reported that the tobacco industry has made the countries having less efficient public health plans and poor resources as their major areas of focus.

RCom Adds 3.3 Mln Customers On GSM and CDMA Networks In Feb 2009Reliance Communications (RCom), the part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, is riding high these days.

The company announced that its total subscriber base has gone up to 69.38 million as it added 3.38 million new customers on both GSM and CDMA networks during the last month (Feb 2009).  

RCom had claimed over 5 million additions for the month of January (2009).

Transcend Launches 192 GB High-Speed SSD In IndiaTranscend has announced its new 192 GB high speed solid state drive (SSD), which comes with NAND flash memory, in the Indian market.

The SSD is also resistant to mechanical failure resulting from vibration, shock or heat. Moreover, it is compatible with SATA II, and offers high-speed transfer rate.

The company claims that this newly launched MLC-equipped 192GB SSD reads at the speed of 150 MB per second, while it writes at the speed of 90 MB per second.

It also has a strong new controller that surpasses standard 2.5” hard drives.

NHPC to hold IPO till market conditions stabilize

NHPCState-owned NHPC, a hydroelectric power generating company, revealed in a statement, that it would come out with its initial public offer, only after the market conditions improve.

Mr. SK Garg, Chairman and Managing Director of the company said, "IPO is on hold till market conditions stabilize."

Last year in October, the company has planned initial public offer (IPO) of 167 crore equity shares, which latter the company called off due to volatile market conditions.

The company has plans to raise funds for its future expansions and part finance the construction and development costs of certain of identified projects.
