Conference of births and deaths registrars to begin today

New Delhi, Mar 5 : The Annual National Conference of Chief Registrars of Births and Deaths will begin here today.

Chief Registrars of Births and Deaths from the States / Union Territories as well as Secretaries / Special Secretaries / Principal Secretaries overseeing the work of registration of births and deaths, besides representatives of Ministries of Health and Family Welfare, Women and Chief Development, Statistics and Programme Implementation, Planning Commission, UNICEF, Plan India and officials of the Registrar General, India and Directorates of Census Operations in the States / Union Territories will participate in the two-day conference.

Chinese envoy condemns attack on Sri Lankan cricketersNew Delhi, Mar. 4 (ANI): China's Ambassador to India Zhang Yan on Wednesday condemned Tuesday's attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of an event, Ambassador Yan urged the world community to come together to fight the menace of terrorism.

"We are opposing any terrorist action. .all countries should work together to fight against all forms of terrorists," said Yan.

CID RAW report ‘leak’ to Pak media, a ploy to drag India into Lahore attack

New Delhi, Mar. 4 (ANI): The Pakistan Government was warned about a possible attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), Punjab, recently.

The Punjab CID had also tabled a `secret' report saying that the Indian intelligence agency-RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) was chalking out plans to attack the Lankan to malign Pakistan's image on the international stage.

The report tagged "SECRET/IMMEDIATE" with subject "SOURCE REPORT" said : "It has reliably been learnt that RAW (Indian intelligence agency) has assigned its agents the task to target Sri Lankan cricket team during its current visit to Lahore, especially while travelling between the hotel and stadium or at hotel during their stay.

Naveen Chawla to replace Gopalaswami as CEC

A Rashtrapati Bhavan commnique has said that the President Pratibha Patil has approved the name of Chawla for the post.

Patil on Sunday rejected CEC N Gopalaswami''s recommendation to remove Chawla from the poll panel.

The CEC had written to the President in January to remove Chawla, triggering an unseemly row in the constitutional panel and a bitter war of words between the Congress-led UPA government and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
