India, Chile sign four agreements to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, Mar 17 : India and Chile today signed four agreements in the areas of space, renewable energy, education and mineral resources to strengthen their bilateral ties further.

The agreements were signed after talks between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and visiting Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.

The agreement on space is for exploration and utilization of outer-space for peaceful purposes.

An agreement on gender equality between both countries is also at an advance stage of negotiation. Both sides agreed to pursue cooperation in the Antarctica as well. Both countries also expressed an interest in strengthening cooperation in the areas of IT and biotechnology.

IPL submits re-revised schedule to Home MinistryNew Delhi, Mar 17 : Organisers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday submitted a re-revised tournament schedule to the Union Home Ministry.

The action was taken after the Home Ministry advised IPL organisers that it may not be possible to hold the Twenty20 series as per its previous revised schedule.

The Home Ministry has now forwarded this new schedule to the respective State Governments to seek their views on the new dates.

Three people killed by suspected Maoists in eastern India

New Delhi - At least three people were shot dead by suspected Maoist guerrillas in India's eastern state of Bihar, a news report said Tuesday.

Armed Maoist rebels attacked Khaira village in southern Lakhisarai district late Monday night in retaliation for the killing of a Maoist by locals last week, the PTI news agency reported quoting police.

The attackers fired indiscriminately and killed three men on the scene, the report said.

Two women who were injured in the attack were being treated at a government hospital in Lakhisarai where their condition was described as "critical."

A number of agreements are expected to be signed during the meeting.

During her visit, Bachelet is also scheduled to meet President Pratibha Patil, Vice-President Dr. Mohammed Hamid Ansari, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Leader of Opposition L. K. Advani.

A meeting between the Home Ministry and the BCCI officials on Monday ended without resolution with the Ministry making it clear that it was not in a position to spare para-military forces because of the Lok Sabha elections.
