New Delhi, Mar 26 : The security forces are engaged in a fierce encounter with militants in Hajibal area of Gurez sector in Jammu and Kashmir, just a day after one of the longest and bloodiest encounters in recent times ended in Kupwara.

The encounter started early Thursday morning and sources said that till now the Army has been gunned down one militant. Ten to fifteen terrorists were trying to infiltrate when the Army engaged them, they added.

New Delhi, Mar 26 : The Indian Army's Armoured Corps has completed `Thar Centaurs', a 1,000 mile expedition on horseback as an part of adventure activity between January 29, and March 25, 2009.

The expedition of 12 riders was led by Lt. Colonel P. S. Grewal and included travel on horseback through harshest of terrain. It tested the skill and endurance of both rider and horse.

New Delhi, Mar 26 : The rate of inflation for the week ended March 14 fell further to 0.27 percent, from 0.44 per cent a week earlier, government data showed on Thursday.

However, the prices of some essential commodities like cereals and vegetables have risen during the period.

The price for primary food articles like fruits and vegetables, rice, some varieties of pulses, barley, bajra, and maize rose by 0.1 percent.

The food index of manufactured items also went up as maida, sooji, oil cakes, imported edible oil, gur, and cottonseed oil became expensive.

New Delhi, Mar. 26 (ANI): A casual glance through the Congress Party’s latest manifesto indicates that it has placed on itself a huge and onerous task of fulfilling 29 promises as part of its nation-building endeavour between 2009 and 2014, should it emerge victorious in this year’s general elections.

The 21-page manifesto starts off with a pledge to ensure a “life of security, dignity and prosperity” for every Indian citizen, and claims “we have delivered on promises made in our manifesto of 2004 in a very substantial measure”.

New Delhi, Mar 26 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will organise a one-day conference on cyber crime here today.

Organized in association with Council of Europe, the conference will hold deliberations on cyber crime threats and trends, International cooperation against cyber crime, and Law enforcement.

The meeting aims to enhance the knowledge of law enforcement agencies in fighting cyber crime and improving international police cooperation against such crime.
