Zardari hopes to develop FATA on lines of Assam

Pakistan People’s Party co-chairperson Asif Ali ZardariIslamabad, Jan. 25 : Worried by the rising extremism in Pakistan's tribal regions, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that every effort would be made to develop the troubled area on the lines of Assam and Alaska, once peace is restored there.

"The tribal areas would be developed on the Assam and Alaska models with public-private partnership for industrialization," the Daily Times quoted Zardari, as saying.

Obama camp fires back; ties opponents McCain, Palin to Bush Lahore/Islamabad, Jan. 25 : Fridays's twin missile attacks in Pakistan's tribal areas were ordered by US President Barack Obama, the Daily Times reports.

Quoting a report from The Guardian, US commanders had consulted Obama before launching the drone attacks on Waziristan.

"Four days after assuming the presidency, he was consulted by US commanders before they launched the two attacks," the Pakistani daily said..

Pakistan’s envoy to India receives death threat from terrorist group

Islamabad, PakistanIslamabad, Jan 25 : Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Shahid Malik, has received a death threat from a relatively unknown terrorist group, the Dawn reports.

The group, which calls itself the All India Anti-Terrorism Group (AIATG), has warned Malik to leave New Delhi within three days, failing which he would face dire consequences.

"We don't need to make any kind of relation and have no place for any Pakistani in our country," the e-mailed threat said.

Benazir’s killers to be caught soon, says Pak Ambassador to UN

Benazir-BhuttoKarachi, Jan. 24 : The assassins of the former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would soon be behind the bars, if Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Hussain Abdullah Haroon is to be believed.

Addressing the members of the Sindh Assembly here, Haroon said: "The nation would hear positive news regarding the probe into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto soon."

He said that top investigators from the UN would be visiting Pakistan in connection with the probe.
