Pakistan drops demand for extradition of Samjhauta accused Col. PurohitLahore, Jan. 24: Putting down the speculation about Pakistan asking for the extradition of Col. Purohit, allegedly involved in the Samjhauta Express incident, Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that it would not demand his extradition from India as the two countries do not have any treaty in place for it.

"We do not have any extradition treaty with India to exchange accused," Gilani said.

The tribunal consisting of former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, the former vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Dr. Ravi Bapat and lawyer Shirish Gupte would be hearing Asif's plea in Mumbai today.

PCB LogoLahore, Jan. 23 : Replying to the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) letter enquiring about Mohammad Asif's Dubai case findings, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the PCB, Shafqat Naghmi has said that he is ready to assist the new enquiry committee, The News reported.

Naghmi, in his letter to the PCB said that he had an conducted enquiry into the issue and had also received a written report from Dubai during the investigation.

"Mohammad Asif's statement was also recorded before the committee, however, it contradicted the Dubai report," the letter said.

ISPR Director General terms Taliban sharia ‘terrorism’

Pakistan MapIslamabad, Jan. 23 : The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan has termed the `sharia' imposed by the Taliban in the tribal region as `terrorism'.

Director General (DG) of the ISPR, Major General Athar Abbas has said that the peace treaty signed with the Taliban in the Swat valley has provided the extremists an opportunity to re-emerge in the region.

"Taliban has regrouped in Swat as the security forces have changed their strategy after the peace deal," The Daily Times quoted, Maj. Gen. Abbas, as saying.
