Blast kills five in north-west Pakistan

Pakistan MapIslamabad - A powerful blast in north-western Pakistan on Monday killed at least five people and wounded several more, police said.

The bomb detonated along a busy road in the militancy-prone town of Dera Islmail Khan, a police officer, Zafar Rehman, said.

"Initial reports say five people are dead," Rehman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa on the phone. He failed to give any figures for the injured.

However, private news channels reported that 20 people were wounded and the blast was caused by explosives planted on a bicycle left by the roadside.

Pakistan’s Federal Trade Minister Amin FahimKarachi, Jan. 26 : Pakistan's Federal Trade Minister Amin Fahim has indicated the possibility of an alliance between the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

"PML-Q is a political reality and an alliance between the PPP and the PML-Q can not be ruled out. We can resolve differences for the larger interest of the people and the nation," Fahim was quoted by the Daily Times as saying.

He also said the results of the meeting between PPP leaders and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would be made public soon.

The announcement was made by Mullah Fazlullah, the Talibani cleric, on his FM radio channel, The Daily Times reports.

5 killed in D.I Khan blastDera Ismail Khan, Jan 26: A blast in Dera Ismail Khan in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan on Monday, killed five people and left several injured.

According to the news, the blast occurred outside the town hall at circular road where a car and a motorbike were parked.

It is, however, unclear whether the bomb was planted in the car or the motorbike.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and the police and high have reached for an on the spot inspection.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital where six are reported to be in a critical condition.

Biden said that the missile hits in the tribal areas of Pakistan would also continue.

He said that the US is working towards strengthening their strategy to counter the rising insurgency in the tribal areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
