Red Ribbon Express spreading AIDS awareness reaches Jalandhar

Red Ribbon ExpressJalandhar, Nov 2 : The Red Ribbon Express, spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS, has reach Jalandhar.

The exhibition train will remain open for people for their viewing at Jalandhar station on Sunday, according to reports.

The train comprises of seven coaches, which is equipped with educational material (primarily on HIV/AIDS), interactive touch screens, an LCSD projector and platform for folk performances and counseling cabins for providing counseling.

The express was flagged-off from New Delhi on December 1, AIDS Day, last year.

Till date, it has covered 22 states.

Radio Pakistan terms Hindus as ‘fundamentalists’

Amritsar, Oct. 29 : People living in the border areas in Punjab are perplexed to hear Radio Pakistan making allegations that Hindus are ‘fundamentalists’ in nature.

People, including prominent Hindu seers, in Amritsar have taken offence to such allegations.

“One should not forget that Hindus in India have existed as an open-minded community. This is the reason why there could be three Muslim Presidents in the country, one Muslim Chief Justice of India, Home minister, and Chief Ministers in the past. If Hindus were not liberal, this wouldn’t have been possible,” said Swami Neeschalananda Saraswathi, Shankaracharya of Puri Goverdhan Peeth.

Punjab shows the way to raise awareness about organ donation

Ludhiana, Oct 29 : Though organ transplantation in India was started in 1971, the donations from cadavers were negligible. However Punjab has recently made a beginning in spreading awareness about organ donation and raising health issues related to organ transplants.

Through cadaver donation, different organs like heart and parts of lungs and liver can be transplanted to eight patients and can also benefit 50 others in various ways. But it is not practiced in India.

At the 19th annual conference of Indian Society of Organ Transplantation in Ludhiana, experts expressed their opinions on legal, ethical and social issues in organ transplantation.
