Ladies clubs mushroom Ludhiana city

LudhianaLudhiana, Nov. 8 : Gone are the days when clubbing used to be a favourite pastime of the elite. For, the modern club culture of European society is steadily finding growing acceptance at different places in India, as a growing number of people seem drawn to cherish it.

In Ludhiana, the industrial town of Punjab, the booming club culture among women is providing a lucrative business opportunity to the hospitality and retail sector.

Ludhiana today has over 100 small and big women’s clubs and each of the clubs have members anywhere from 50 to 2,500.

Abohar exhibition seeks to preserve Punjab’s historical perspectives

PunjabAbohar, Nov. 8 : Punjab''s rich rural heritage is generally feared to be fading due to the impact of modern science and technology. Recently, in Abohar, an attempt was made to preserve the glorious past of Punjab through a special exhibition.

Over 150 students from different colleges participated in an exhibition, which was an attempt to help in "Exploring Historical Perspectives on Pluralistic Society and Polity in Punjab".

The exhibition was held at the DAV College in Abohar.

Punjabi amateur golfers promote India-Pakistan camaraderie

ChandigarhChandigarh, Nov. 8 : In a gesture to promote brotherhood and friendship between people from both sides of Punjab in Pakistan and India, the 3rd Punj-aab Cup Golf championship was organized here recently.

Though the Indian Punjab team won the tournament this year, the highlight of the tournament was the warmth and camaraderie between players of the two countries.

Beside exchanging information among them about golf course management and coaching, the golfers and organizers enjoyed the cordial atmosphere.

Garment manufacturers popularizing organic clothes in PunjabChandigarh, Nov. 8 : Garment manufacturers in Punjab, who initiated an awareness campaign on the ill effects of cotton cultivated with toxic chemicals, have now launched exclusive wear made of organic cotton.

One Ludhiana based garment manufacturer Venus Group recently announced its foray into the domestic market with the launch of first ever organic cotton-based apparels.

These organic garments are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standards and Organic Exchange standards.

Punjab refuses to clear deputation of ex-Vigilance chief

Punjab Government has refused to allow former Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) chief A P Pandey available for a Central posting. Union Government has sent a letter to Punjab in this regard. But the state govt. is not replying to that one.

"We wrote to the state Govt.on September 11, asking if 1974-batch IPS officer AP Pandey, who stands empanelled as Director-General, could be made available for Central deputation. The letter categorically said the Government's response should reach us by September 16. However, we have still not received any reply," said a senior officer in the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
