Kasab gets a lawyerMumbai, March 30 : A special court here today appointed Anjali Waghmare as the new lawyer for Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist captured alive in the Mumbai terror attacks last year.

Waghmare, who is a lawyer from the state legal aid cell, will now represent Kasab.

Kasab, during an earlier court hearing on March 23, had said he wanted a lawyer to represent him during the trial and was ready to accept a government-appointed lawyer.

During the hearing, Kasab had also accepted the fact that he hailed from Faridkot in Pakistan.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan Mumbai, Mar 29 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Sunday said that the Bollywood actor-turned-politician Govinda has expressed unwillingness to contest the upcoming general elections.

"Govinda has declined the offer to contest the Lok Sabha elections again," Chavan told reporters at State Congress party office here.

Govinda is the Congress MP from Mumbai North parliamentary constituency. He won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from the constituency after defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ram Naik.

Sensex crosses 10,000-points mark for first time since January 2009Mumbai, Mar 26 : The Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex on Thursday crossed 10,000-points marks for the first time since January 2009.

At 3 p. m., Sensex was at a high of 10,010.42 points, up 3.54 percent or 342.52 points.

The National Stock Exchange's Nifty also rose by 73.95 points to 3058.30 points.

The BSE Midcap Index was up 1.27 per cent and the BSE Smallcap Index rose 0.8 per cent.

Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon shoots for PETAMumbai, Mar 26 : Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon on Thursday shot for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with an aim of discouraging the use of leather and leather products.

Tandon has been associated with the PETA for the last 15 years.

"This campaign is basically against leather and leather products. We think it as a style statement but actually the way it is made and the way we use it, it harms us," she said.
