Kolkata, Aug 22 : Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said she would not budge from her stand of demanding the 400 acres of land taken for the TATA Nano project in Singur.

Reacting to Ratan Tata’s statement that the TATA Group could be thinking about exiting from the Nano project in the interest of the safety of its employees, Banerjee said, "We don''''t want anybody to move out of West Bengal, but at the same time, we will not bow to any kind of pressure.”

Kolkata, Aug 22 : Chairman of the TATA group Ratan Tata today said that the group could exit the Nano project from Singur in the interest of the safety of its employees, if violence continued there.

Ratan Tata said that even though it would cost a great deal to move but there was a concern about the safety of employees.

"We will move from Singur whatever the cost to protect our people," he added.

On Thursday, Commerce and Industries Minister of West Bengal Nirupam Sen and Ratan Tata held talks over TATA Motor''s small car plant at Singur.

Kolkata, Aug 20 : A nationwide strike called by the Left-backed trade unions today paralyzed normal life in West Bengal and Kerala, disrupting air and rail traffic.

With the ruling Left Front supporting the strike, called by eight trade unions and 40 employees’ federations to protest against the “anti-labour policies of the Centre”, turned out to be a complete shutdown in these states. 

McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd has informed that it has secured two orders worth Rs 53.25 crore from two different firms.  

Kolkata, Aug 19 : The West Bengal Government today appealed to the Trinamool Congress and other Trinamool allies to postpone their proposed indefinite agitation over the Singur issue.

The agitation veers around Tata Motors project site in Singur demanding the return of 400 acres of land to the farmers.

On Wednesday, the State Government and representatives of the Trinamool-led opposition will meet for a discussion on the issue.

Kolkata, Aug 14: The Calcutta High Court today stayed the verdict in the high profile "forced suicide case of Rizwanur Rahman" for two weeks.

The court has also asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a chargesheet against all the seven accused.

Earlier, the CBI had said in its report that computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rehman had committed suicide, and was not killed.
