Government approves expansion of Kolkata Airport

Netaji Subhash Chandra BoseNew Delhi, Aug 14 : The Government today gave its approval to the modernization or expansion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (NSCBI) International Airport, Kolkata at an estimated cost of Rs. 1942.51 crores.

The work, which is expected to be completed within 30 months of award, will result in an additional passengers handling capacity of 20 Million Passengers Per Annum
(MPPA).

Texmaco To Hive Off Mfg Business

The executive vice-chairman of Texmaco Ltd, Mr. Saroj Poddar announced on Monday that the company, which deals with making of rail wagons, is planning to hive off its total manufacturing business to a separate arm to strengthen its business.

By selling part of its stake in the proposed new entity to private investors, the company is looking forward to raise Rs 200 crore. The holder of the company would be Texmaco.

To draw out the modalities for raising the amount, the company has appointed ICICI Securities.

By September 2009, the company would be capable of making 40 wagons per day, whereas presently it is manufacturing 20 wagons per day, Mr. Poddar said in the annoucement.

Texmaco to transfer its heavy engineering division to a separate entity Kolkata-based Texmaco Ltd, the rail wagon maker is looking into transferring its heavy engineering division to a newly formed subsidiary in order to raise resources and unlock value.

The company plans to raise Rs 200 crore by selling part of its stake in the proposed new entity to private investors. The main objective behind setting up the subsidiary was to raise resources and take advantage of the emerging business opportunities in the sector. Texmaco will be the main holding company in the new venture.

`City of Joy'' heralds Olympiad with palm art

Fifty-six-year-old Guan Yaojiu paints mountains using his palms and finger instead of paint brushes.

He has dedicated this palm art piece to the ongoing Olympic Games in Beijing.

Yaojiu also makes dragons, which are revered by the Chinese, with the help of fine Chinese brushes.

Yaojiu uses his palm swiftly to bring about clarity on the canvas.

For his mountain paintings Yaojiu usually uses black, but adds shades of brown and green to some of his works.

One killed in Nandigram following fresh violence

nadigaramKolkata, Aug 7 : One person was killed today in firing between Trinamool Congress-backed Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers in Nandigram.

Meanwhile, the CPI-M has organised a 24-hour shutdown in Nandigram to protest against the killing of their local committee secretary, Niranjan Mondal.
