Filing of nominations for second phase of J-K Assembly elections ends today

Srinagar, Nov 5: Filing of nominations for the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will close this evening.

The scrutiny will be taken up on Thursday.

Four seats in Rajouri and two in Ganderbal district will go to polls in this phase on November 23.

Meanwhile, arrangements are being finalised for smooth conduct of polls in the ten constituencies in the first phase on November 17.

There are 8109 polling stations in the state and they would be guarded as per their specifications of sensitive and hyper-sensitive nature.

Leh in J-K gears up for assembly polls

Leh, Jammu and Kashmir, IndiaLeh (Jammu and Kashmir), Nov 4 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh District is gearing up for assembly polls to be held from November 17 to December 24 by reviewing security and other essential arrangements for free and fair elections in the state.

About 129 government authorities and locals are being trained for the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM).

Mohan Lal, Returning Officer, responsible for overseeing elections briefed media about all necessary arrangements made for the upcoming polls.

Governor Kashmir for timely execution of economic reconstruction projects

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N VohraSrinagar, Nov 1: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today called for an effective management policy for timely completion of the projects being executed by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) in the state.

Reviewing the progress of the ERA projects at a high level meeting in Srinagar, Vohra asked the officers to supervise the work on regular basis.

According to official sources, over Rs 438 crore projects are under execution in the state by ERA during the current year under Asian Development Bank Funding.

Arrangements finalised to conduct free, fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and KashmirSrinagar, Oct 31: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has said that all possible security arrangements would be made to ensure smooth conduct of seven-phase elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

After reviewing the security arrangements in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama district, Khoda said the candidates contesting the forthcoming assembly polls will be provided adequate security,

He said all required measures will be taken to ensure the security of the public and venue of public meetings to be addressed by various political parties.

Srinagar, Oct 31: Filing of nominations for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections comes to an end today.

Polling will be held on November 17 in 10 constituencies. The date of scrutiny is November 1 and last date for withdrawal of candidature is November 3.

Meanwhile, the Centre has dispatched 70 companies of para-military forces for ensuring security during the seven-phase elections in the State.

Security officials said that the Centre has so far sent 70 out of 425 sanctioned companies for ensuring security for polls during first phase of polling on November 17.

Six killed in Doda mishap, 29 injured

Jammu and Kashmir, IndiaJammu, Oct 30 : At least six persons were killed and 29 others injured today in a tragic road accident in Doda District of Jammu and Kashmir.

The accident occurred about six kilometers from Doda town when a passenger bus plunged down a 250 foot deep ravine on the bank of river Chenab on its way to Doda.

The overcrowded private bus had left Kishtawar for Doda at around 2 p. m. and veered off the highway while approaching Doda.

Six persons were reportedly killed on the spot, while 29 others were injured, 10 of them critically.
