Lashkar militants ordered to move from Pakistan to AfghanistanIslamabad, Dec. 9: With the Pakistan Government ordering a crackdown on the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant group and its political wing, the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which are being suspected for masterminding last month’s terrorist attacks on Mumbai, an order has been issued to militant volunteers to leave Pakistan and take refuge in Afghanistan.

Ex-ISI chief Gul says he was not involved with Al-QaedaIslamabad, Dec. 8 : Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General, Lt. Gen. (retired) Hamid Gul, has rejected all allegations regarding his connection with banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and also about his involvement in any terrorist activities involving Al Qaeda.

In an interview to a U. S. based T. V channel, he said: “Whatever happens in India, it (India) is in habit of putting blames on others.”

Pak to respond to India’s second demarche in a couple of days

Islamabad, Dec. 8 : The Pakistan Government has said that it will respond to the Indian Government’s second demarche on what actions the former proposes to take vis-à-vis the Mumbai terror strikes in a few days.

India is expecting the response on Monday, but authorities in Islamabad have indicated that it could take some more days before a response is forwarded.

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal met on Saturday, and at that time, there was an indication that a response would be forthcoming on Monday.

Security forces crackdown on Lashkar-e-Toiba in Pakistan Kashmir

Muzaffarabad/Islamabad, Dec. 8 : Pakistani security forces have launched a ‘quiet’ crackdown on activists affiliated with the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, the political wing of the banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba on the Pakistan side of Kashmir as well as in other parts of the country.

According to the Dawn, in Muzaffarabad, a major army operation was under way in the city suburbs on Sunday against a site being used by the Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which is headed by Hafiz Mohammad Saeed.

Sources told the paper that more than 20 members of the banned organisation and Lashkar-i-Toiba’s ‘commander’ Zakiur Rehman Lakhwi had been arrested.

There are reports that similar actions are planned in some cities and towns of Punjab.

Clashes kill one soldier, over a dozen Taliban in Pakistan

Pakistan MapIslamabad - At least one soldier and 13 Taliban militants were killed on Saturday in clashes between security forces and Islamic militants in Pakistan's north-western Swat valley, a military spokesman claimed.

Pakistani troops have been fighting the followers of a radical cleric Maulana Fazlullha, who wants to enforce Taliban rule in Swat, a scenic valley that was formerly a popular tourist destination, since late last year.

"The security forces engaged the suspected hideouts of miscreants in Nalkot area of Matta sub-district," a local military spokesman Colonel Nadeem Ahmad said.
