Parliament, not the Supreme Court is supreme in Pakistan

Pakistan FlagIslamabad, Dec. 6 : The battle between the Parliament and the Supreme Court in Pakistan seems to be heading for yet another confrontation. Even though Pakistan boasts that it has an established democracy, it doesn’t have the hierarchy of rule which exists in a true democratic state.

“Parliament is supreme and we hope that the principle of parliamentary supremacy will be established and accepted by all in accordance with the Constitution,” the media adviser of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari , Farhatullah Babar, said.

“Parliament is supreme and let there be no doubt or mistake about it,” Babar added.

An explosive-laden car detonated late Friday when people were shopping for Muslim festival of Eid ul Adha in Koocha Risaldar near city's historic Qissa Khwani Bazaar.

Several nearby buildings caught fire following the high-intensity blast, making it difficult for the rescue workers to move the dead and injured from the narrow street.

Pak-India trade talks postponed

India, PakistanIslamabad, Dec. 5 : Trade talks between Pakistan and India have been postponed for an indefinite period in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks.

Trade ministry sources told the Geo News on Friday that the secretary-level talks on enhancing trade ties were to be held in the first week of December in Islamabad.

They further said that both countries had to discuss a proposal to open three more trade routes.

According to an ARY Television report, the message for cancellation of talks has been received. However, the Indian trade ministry has hinted that the trade talks could be held at the end of next month.

Hameed Gul, Qureshi discuss US move regarding ISI

General Hameed Gul on Thursday, and is reported to have assured him that the government would seriously look into the issue of Washington’s move to include the names of ex-ISI officials in the list of international terrorist through UN’s Security Council.
