Chandigarh, Aug 12 : As India rejoices its first ever Olympic gold medal, Abhinav Bindra''s victory in the men''s 10m air rifle dominated the national media''s front pages on Tuesday.

Bindra''s victory eclipsed everything else on television channels, which hailed it as a morale booster for a country with few global sporting stars.

Bindra had been fourth after qualifying but had a brilliant final round and the Indian, the epitome of tranquility, hit a near perfect 10.8 on his last shot to pull in front of Henri Hakkinen of Finland, who fell to bronze with a poor final shot.

New Delhi, Aug 12 : Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief (JMM) Shibu Soren on Tuesday asked Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda to quit soon, otherwise support to the state government will be withdrawn.

"The decision regarding making me Jharkhand CM was taken long back but it is getting delayed. Hence, we arrived at the decision to withdraw support for Koda government if he does not resign now," Soren told reporters here.

Jammu, Aug 12 : The Amarnath Yatra was suspended again on Tuesday due to bad weather in the Baltal and Pahalgam areas of South Kashmir.

According to police officials, the pilgrimage was suspended and no batch was being sent to the shrine from Jammu.

The last batch of the pilgrims will leave from here on August 14.

The yatra was earlier suspended on Monday due to inclement weather.

It began on June 17 and will end on August 16.

Security forces have been put on a high alert along the entire route of the pilgrimage to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

Monday saw a formal request coming to the Centre by the Manipur government, which seeks a CBI probe into the manipulative game played by the IOA and Sports Authority of India (SAI) to keep out weightlifter Monika Devi out of the Beijing Olympics.

The Sports Minister of Manipur N Biren said that anyone who is found guilty in manipulating game and keeping Monika out of the Olympics would not be spared.  

India got place in the Olympic medal tally after Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra won a Gold medal in 10m Air Rifle event held in Beijing Olympics. It is a first ever individual gold medal in the kitty of India. The country has won a gold medal in the Olympic Games after a long gap of 28 years.

Indian government has launched National online portal on environment. This portal will help people to know about environmental issues and waste management. The online portal is a result of efforts of the National Knowledge Commission (NKC), Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) and a green group.

The online portal will not only help common people but also help students and researchers and NGOs. NKC chairman, Sam Pitroda expressed satisfaction over the launch of portal and said that it will make sure public scrutiny of government papers on environment.

The web portal contains about 300,000 articles and documents from different sources for researchers. The portal will cover subjects like climate changes and latest meteorological news.
