Arab League chief in Beirut to discuss Hezbollah-Egypt row

Arab League Beirut- Arab League chief Amr Mussa arrived in Beirut Saturday to discuss the crisis between Cairo and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah over an alleged cell linked to the group working to destabilize Egypt, a government source said. Mussa met with President Michel Suleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Fouad Seniora, the source said.

Mussa said after meeting Seniora that he was following up the Lebanese elections, due on June 7, and "the issue of the alleged Hezbollah cell arrested in Egypt."

Hamas, Fatah pledge fresh proposals on eve of Cairo talks

Hamas, FatahGaza - Officials from the rival Hamas and Fatah movements on Saturday pledged to put fresh proposals on the table on the eve of new round of inter-Palestinian talks in Cairo. "Hamas's delegation bears new ideas and various options to make the Palestinian dialogue successful," said Mushir al-Massri, a Hamas lawmaker based in Gaza.

"We are going to the dialogue with open minds and with positivity and we hope to find a similar approach from Fatah," al-Massri added.

Mubarak denies Israel's foreign minister invited to Egypt Cairo - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Thursday denied that Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman had been invited to Egypt.

"I think that the Israeli prime minister, (Benjamin Netanyahu) will come to Egypt in May," Mubarak said in a speech to mark the national holiday of Sinai Liberation Day. "But he will come alone, without another minister."

Egyptian intelligence chief meets Lieberman despite spat Jerusalem  - Egyptian Intelligence Chief Omar Suleiman met with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman late Wednesday despite threats by Cairo that it would boycott the ultra-nationalist politician who had insulted President Hozny Mubarak.

Suleiman arrived in Israel on the first visit by a senior Egyptian official since the new Israeli government of hardline Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took office following February 10 elections.

EgyptCairo  - The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned Iran's chief diplomat in Cairo to deliver a formal protest at an Iranian officials' mockery of Egyptian claims to have uncovered a Hezbollah cell in the country.

Zarqani Mohammed, Egypt's assistant foreign minister for Asian affairs, summoned the head of the Iranian interests section in Cairo to deliver a letter conveying Egypt's "strong and total rejection" of Iranian "intervention in Egypt's internal affairs," the Foreign Ministry said in statement released Tuesday.

Two Coptic Christians shot dead in Egypt as they celebrate Easter Cairo  - Four Muslim gunmen opened fire on a group of Coptic Christians as they were leaving church in the southern Egyptian governorate of Menya, killing two and wouding one, a security source told the German press agency dpa on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night as Coptic Christians were celebrating Easter in a church vigil.

The source told dpa that the incident "is a revenge case that dates back to a dispute in 2004, and is not based on sectarian or political reasons."
