Violence breaks out during Bihar shutdown

Patna, Oct 25 : Violence broke out during the dawn-to-dusk Bihar shutdown today called by various student organisations to protest against the attacks on North Indian candidates during a railway recruitment examination in Mumbai.

The shutdown is being called by various student organisations, including AISA, the student wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), an ultra Left party.

Students ransacked Shekhpura railway station and delinked the engine of a passenger train this morning.

According to official sources, some students pelted stones at the police and totally disrupted rail traffic on the Kiul-Gaya railway line.

The police have taken half a dozen protestors in custody.

Seven trains passing through Bihar cancelled

Violence in Bihar has forced the Eastern Railway authorities to cancel seven trains that pass through Bihar.  

"Though there has been no news of any fresh violence on this day, the railway authorities did not want to take any chances," said an Eastern Railway official.

The cancelled trains list includes Bhagalpur-New Delhi Vikramshila Express, the Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Jansewa Express, the Sealdah- Balia Express, the Howrah-Patna Janshatabdi Express, the Howrah-Hardwar Puja Special, the Howrah-Raxaul Mithila Express and the Sealdah-Jaynagar Gangasagar Express, an ER press release said. The Sealdah-Udaipur Ananya Express was diverted via Pradhankhunta.

BHEL bags order worth Rs 1474 crore from NTPC

BHEL bags order worth Rs 1474 crore from NTPCPublic sector equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has secured a contract worth Rs 1474 from the government controlled power generation company NTPC. 

Under the deal, BHEL will set up two 660 MW steam turbine generators for NTPC's Barh thermal power project in Bihar. 

BHEL’s scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning.

This is company's first commercial order with supercritical parameters through the International Competitive Bidding.

Bihar protests against Raj ThackerayPatna, Oct 23 : Protests erupted in Bihar’s Nalanda District on Thursday in retaliation to attacks on migrants in Mumbai.

The mob went on a rampage, vandalizing public property and damaging vehicles.

Protesters brandishing sticks and logs of wood marched on the streets and chanted slogans, demanding strict action against Raj Thackeray, chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), for inciting violence against people from north Indian region in Mumbai.

24 people drown in India boat accident

BiharNew Delhi  - At least 24 people including 23 women were drowned when an overcrowded boat capsized in India's eastern state of Bihar on Wednesday, police said.

The boat ferrying 28 agricultural workers capsized on a small river in Khagaria district located over 200 kilometres east of state capital Patna.
