BEML picks order worth Rs 1672 crore; Stock soars 7%Indian Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), has received an order worth Rs 1672 crore from Bangalore Metro Rail Corp to supply 150 metro rail coaches by October 2010.

In addition, BEML is also likely to get an additional order for 63 Metro coaches for further expansion and extension of proposed Metro lines in the city. The value of order will be about Rs 600 crore.

It may be noted that Bangalore-based Company earlier won an order worth Rs 1365 crore from Delhi Metro Rail Corp to supply rail coaches.

Yeddyurappa asks Renuka to stop making irresponsible statements

Karnataka Chief Minister BS YeddyurappaBangalore, Feb 8 : Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday asked Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury to stop making irresponsible statements on the Mangalore pub attacks.

"Let her come and ascertain the facts. A probe is on and the truth will come out. Till then she should stop making comments on the state government," Yeddyurappa told reporters in Bangalore.

Karnataka women protest against attack on girls in MangaloreBangalore, Jan 28 : Women staged a human chain demonstration in Bangalore on Tuesday to protest against the attack on women by activists of the radical Sri Ram Sena in Mangalore last Saturday.

Holding placards and banners, the women raised slogans against attacks on progressively minded girls.

The activists also raised slogans against the State Government for not taking immediate action.

Karnataka Police arrests Ram Sena leader

National Commission for WomenBangalore, Jan 27, : Karnataka Police on Tuesday arrested the State convener of the Sri Ram Sena, Prasad Attavar for his role in the attack on women at a pub in Mangalore.

The Police also arrested Pramod Muthalik, the president of the Karnataka unit.

Public anger prompted the law enforcement authorities to arrest Attavar.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has constituted a three-member team to investigate the attack.

The NCW has also asked the director general of police (DGP), Karnataka, to send an action taken report to the commission in the matter.

Somaiah is employed in a multinational bank and he surrendered in Shivajinagar Police station.
