Six killed 15 injured as bus plunges into Mandya lake

Mandya lakeA Shravanabelagola-bound bus from KR Pet fell into the dry bed of a lake on Tuesday evening killing six passengers on the spot and injuring over 15 others. The accident occured at around 7 pm even as the driver was trying to negotiate the bus on the narrow tankbund.

Some people had a miraculous escape as the tank — Deveerammani kere, a km after KR Pet in Mandya district — was dry. The ill-fated KSRTC bus had more than 60 people on board when the mishap occured.

The reason for this could be attributed to the shortage of personnel at the Mico Layout police station. According to sources, the police force there is short of 17 constables, who are desperately required for guarding the crime-prone area.

Infosys sets up a science foundation in Bangalore

Infosys IntradayBangalore, Feb 17 : IT major Infosys Technologies on Tuesday announced that it has set up a fund `Infosys Science Foundation', for awarding outstanding achievements in various fields.

This foundation would be funded by a corpus of 210.5 million rupees, contributed by the firm''s board members and an annual grant from Infosys Technologies Limited.

The trust would honour an annual award of five million rupees to the countrymen for their exceptional contribution in the arena of physical and mathematical sciences, engineering, life science and social sciences and economics.

First indigenously built water jet machine launched in Bangalore

India MapBangalore, Feb 14, : The Anjani Technoplast Limited (ATL) on Friday introduced an indigenously built water-jet machine with application in aerospace and defence industry here.

ATL marketing manager Sunil Sharma claimed that the water jet could cut through titanium, steel aluminium and alloys as well as composite materials.

"This is a high pressure technology. We can even cut steel up to 200 mm. We have supplied machines to various customers like titanium cutting, external steel cutting so this is a perfectly Indian machine. The first Indian manufacturers of such kinds of machines," he said.
