Guwahati, March 27 : Following various problems being faced by journalists fraternity in Assam, especially during conflicts, recently a meet was organised here to highlight such issues, and discuss scribes' role in bringing peace in the State.
The second state-level convention of the Journalists Federation of Assam was held in Guwahati recently.
One of the key issues that the convention pondered was the violence unleashed by United Liberation Front of Asom (or ULFA) that has disrupted normal life in the state.
Nalbari (Assam), Mar 24 : Surrendered rebels of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) express their desire to participate in upcoming general elections.
A splinter faction of Assam''s main rebel group, the ULFA, which prefers to have talks with the Central Government for a negotiated settlement to the separatist issue, said they want to cast their vote in the elections, which will be between April 16 and May 13.
Aizwal, Mar. 20 : In a bid to resolve the border dispute between Mizoram''s Kolasib district and Assam's Hailakandi district, talks would be held in the border village of Phaisen on Friday.
The Additional Superintendent of Police of Kolasib Lalthafamkima, said that a joint verification of the disputed site would be done by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) of Vairengte and his Hailakandi counterpart.
Power equipment manufacturer KEC International announced that it has bagged orders worth Rs 291 crore from Power Grid of India for setting up transmission lines in Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
The company said that the first order is for the supply and creation of 765 kv Satna-Bina line and another 400 kv line at Bina associated with ATS for the Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh.
The other project consists of two 400 kv and one 132 kv transmission lines between Balipara-Biswanath and Depota-Gohpur in Assam.
Dispur, Mar 19: A powerful bomb exploded on the railway track between the Diphu and Daldoli Railway Stations in Assam''s Karbi Anglong District at around 1 a. m. on Thursday.
Passengers miraculously escaped unharmed.
The explosion took place five kilometers from Diphu Railway Station, damaging a significant portion of the railway track.
A track inspector from the Lumding Railway Division rushed to the spot and found another bomb planted there.
