430,000 Assamese stranded by floods

Morigaon (Assam), Sept. 14: At least 430,000 Assamese in over 4000 villages have been affected by the latest bout of monsoon-related floods.

The hardest hit of the 21 districts in the state includes Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Cahchar and Morigaon.

Several rivers, including the main Brahmaputra, are in spate. The State Government has banned the movement of ferries and boats. Makeshift boats and rafts, however, are being allowed to move through the floodwaters.

Guwahati: One person was killed and more than 15 injured, when a blast rocked Guwahati’s busy Bamunimaidam region around noon yesterday. Police suspected the blast have been triggered by the criminalized United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA).

Assam CM Appeal To ULFA For Discussion

Tarun GogoiGuwahati: On Wednesday, Tarun Gogoi, Assam’s Chief Minister requested to the separatist ULFA and other insurgent outfits to disown hostility and come to the compromise desk.

While speaking at the Independence Day function in the Judges Field, Mr. Gogoi alleged, “Violence does not solve any problem. Only valuable human life and property are lost pushing Assam to a dark era.”
