President Patil to attend golden jubilee celebrations of Ambedkar UniversityNew Delhi, Oct 30 : President Pratibha Patil will visit Aurangabad on November 2 to attend the concluding ceremony of the golden jubilee of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of the University S C Jamir, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, Guardian Minister Patangrao Kadam, Higher and Technical Education Minister Dilip Valse Patil will also attend the function.

In her message, the President said, "On the occasion of Diwali, I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to my fellow citizens.

"May this year''s festival bring peace, prosperity and communal harmony amongst the people, as well as remove ignorance and light the lamp of knowledge amongst us all," Patil added.

Pratibha inaugurates Meghalaya's second airport

It was a memorable moment for people of Garo hills in Meghalaya. After a gap of long 56 years they got chance to have a glimpse of their President.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil visited the Garo hills yesterday and inaugurated the Baljek airport in Tura in Meghalaya. Baljek becomes the second airport in the hilly state.

The President congratulated the people of the state in a function organized at the newly inaugurated airport for focusing on building, critical infrastructure for development and said progress and prosperity cannot be realized without adequate infrastructure and a network of connectivity.

President congratulates successful launch of Chandrayaan-1

President Pratibha PatilNew Delhi, Oct 22: President Pratibha Patil today congratulated G. Madhavan Nair and his team at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-1.

In a message to Nair from Guwahati, the President said, "Congratulations to you and your team at the ISRO for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-1 which is now on its journey to the Moon. This day shall go down as a landmark in our space programme, a day which will inspire our space scientists to further work on our mission to put an Indian astronaut into space using an Indian space capsule."

President Pratibha Patil to visit Meghalaya todayShillong, Oct 22 : President Pratibha Patil will arrive in Meghalaya today to attend the centenary celebration of the Laban Bengali Girls Higher Secondary School.

During her visit, President Patil is also scheduled to inaugurate the Baljek Airport in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

The President is arriving here after completing her three-day visit to Assam, where she laid the foundation stone of the Tezpur Medical College in Sonitpur District.

Laying the foundation stone of the Tezpur Medical College in Sonitpur district of Assam, Patil said the country has at present 271 medical colleges out of which about 31,000 medical graduates pass out every year.
