NTPC dumps the Bundelkhand project

NTPC dumps the Bundelkhand projectThe NTPC 4,000 MW power project, which was an initiative by Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi to develop the under-developed regions of Bundelkhand in Uttar Pradesh, was recently abandoned by NTPC due to non-cooperation by the UP state government.

The UP government apparently flouted the rule of demanding 50% of the electricity generated for the state by asking for the entirety of it.

Moreover, the state also refused to provide land and water to NTPC necessary for the project. Also, it demanded that NTPC work in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation in a joint venture, which NTPC could not come into terms with.

Therefore they abandoned the project in Bundelkhand and shifted it to Barethi in Madhya Pradesh instead. Moreover, the MP government has gone out of the way to make sure that NTPC get the necessary land, water and fuel for the project and that nothing should be a problem in this venture.

This mega power project is going to be commissioned during the XII Plan which starts from 2012 and will end at 2017.
