NASA Orbiter finds possible cave skylights on Mars

Washington, Sept.22: NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft has reportedly discovered entrances to seven possible caves on the slopes of a Martian volcano.

The find is likely to fuel interest in potential underground habitats and sparking searches for caverns elsewhere on the planet.

NASA Restarts Telescope Mission to Detect Black Holes

Washington, Sept.22: NASA has made a decision to restart an astronomy mission that will have greater capability than any existing instrument for detecting black holes in the local universe.

The Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NUSTAR), will expand understanding of the origins and destinies of stars and galaxies.

NASA had stopped the study effort on the NUSTAR mission in 2006 due to funding pressures within the Science Mission Directorate.

Scientists unearth 350 genes related to female fertility

Washington, September 22: A study of mice by researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center has uncovered about 350 genes related to female fertility, opening the door to much wider study in the poorly understood field of infertility.

“This study gives us a way to begin to understand the causes of female infertility. It gives us a much more complete list of candidate genes to explore. Before, we didn’t even know where to look,” said Dr. Diego Castrillon, assistant professor of pathology and senior author of the study.  

US doctors use real-time system to plant 'seeds' against prostate cancer

Washington, September 22: A multidisciplinary team of medical practitioners in the US has started using a real-time system to implant radiation-emitting seeds in patients with prostate cancer.

Doctors at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jeferson and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia have revealed that the new mechanism is being used for imaging and planning purposes only.

The real-time system to implant radiation-emitting seeds has been developed by Nucletron, a technology company based in The Netherlands.

Tata Motors offered jobs to 17 displaced Singur youths

Singur (West Bengal), Sept 22: Tata Motors has given jobs to 17 youths whose families had given up their farmland for a proposed car factory at Singur.
These 17 men have joined a training programme sponsored by Tata Motors and the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC).

"We took training in a sponsored program by Tata Motors and the WBIDC. After that, we sat for a test and got through. We have got our training in Jamshedpur. We are now joining as trainees," said Somen Ray, one of the recruits.

Sunita Williams conferred with Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Award

Ahmedabad (Gujarat): Indian-origin American astronaut Sunita Williams was conferred with the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Vishwa Pratibha Award by World Gujarati Society on Friday.
Williams is the first non-resident to receive the award. She was presented with the award by Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma.

The award hat includes a prize money of Rs 250,000, was collected by Williams's father, Dipak Pandya, who subsequently pledged it for a charity.
