Paleontologist Dr. Ken Lacovara has got a new $1.95 million 65-acre classroom consisting of fossils. It has been announced by Rowan University officials that the university is acquiring a quarry owned by Inversand Company and it will be converted into a research and education lab for students.

Paleontologist Lacovara is a Mainland Regional High School graduate and spent many years gathering rocks and digging holes in Linwood. He will act as the dean of a new School of Earth and Environment and lead the study into whether fossils in the site can reveal more about the vanishing of the dinosaurs nearly 65 million years ago.

Researchers are looking forward to find out if a specific kind of 'mind reading' is possible by using some serious computers. Researchers from the University of Washington conducted a study to observe the possibility of a 'brain-to-brain' interface between two individuals, which could let them communicate with brainwaves and a specifically designed computer.

The research team arranged a game like '20 Questions', where an individual would have a query of the other respondent. After that, the respondent would concentrate on the answer to that query by seeing either a 'Yes' or 'No' flashing light in a different room.

Capt. James Schneider, who owns James Joseph Fishing, was running a boat with more than 40 passengers on a fishing trip when they spotted a trio of whales feeding in the Long Island Sound in the vicinity of Huntington at around 12:30 pm on Saturday.

As per reports, the whales hit their tails on the water and were "bubble net feeding", where they disorient and direct fish schools upward by blowing bubbles prior to eating them. According to Schneider, it appeared that the whales were endangered humpbacks.

Schneider said he knew some things about whales and the whales that he saw earlier were definitely humpbacks. Humpback whales can grow as much as 60 feet long, with characteristically long flippers.

The latest report card on Great Barrier Reef water quality has shown signs of improvement, but the health of the marine environment near to the shore is still poor due to pollution runoff from the land.

The good news is that pollution levels in reef waters have declined in the last five years, and it appears that most pollutants are tracking towards the pollution reduction targets planned for 2018.

For example, the level of phosphorus in reef waters has dropped by 14.5%, and has suggested that the aimed 20% decrease in phosphorus loads by 2018 can be achieved. Pesticide and sediment loads have dropped about half, tracking towards the 60% decrease goal for pesticides, and a more modest target of 20% reduction of sediment load by 2018.
