Reducing Nicotine Content in Cigarettes could help in reducing and kicking smoking

If smokers switch to low-nicotine cigarettes then they will be smoking less and there are more changes that they will try to quit, finds a new study. The study that continued for six weeks may help expand limitations on nicotine in cigarettes.

As per the researchers, the findings are preliminary. But as per them, it is the first study to find out that by slashing nicotine is beneficial and lead to less smoking. One of the study researchers Dr. Neal Benowitz of the University of California, San Francisco, said that the study supports for lowering nicotine and also said that it is very much feasible.

New Study reveals how to make Kids eat more of Greens

According to a new study by Texas A&M University, children keep on cribbing to have vegetables and prefer having more of unhealthy food, which is good at taste but doesn't have any nutrition. The study found that parents should place on tables less pleasant food than vegetables so that children eat greens and avoid unhealthy food.

An analysis was done at schools to see how much food is wasted by children. Many schools participated in this National School Lunch Program. It was found that when the greens were served with the dishes which children like the most, such as burgers and chicken nuggets, they were left untouched. Whereas when the children had a choice between the greens and the dish they hate the most, they preferred the former.

One dead in Second Recent Legionnaire’s Disease outbreak in Bronx

Legionnaire's disease is threatening people living in Bronx. On Wednesday, a person lost his life in the second recent outbreak of Legionnaire's disease in Bronx. The death was confirmed by office of Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York City.

In the second outbreak since summer, about thirteen cases have been reported of the serious lung infection caused by Legionella bacteria. Bill de Blasio revealed Thursday during his visit to a Bronx senior center that nine people suffering from the disease are still in hospital, while three have been discharged. According to the office of the mayor, sufferers had underlying health conditions.

Calcium supplements are not going to help you save bones, according to two new studies. Researchers of the studies said people, who believe that calcium supplements will help them in boosting bone density, should understand that the supplements won't save bones.

The studies are surely heartbreak for millions of individuals who take calcium supplements to avoid osteoporosis when they get older. According to the researchers, they didn't find any evidence showing that fractures or bone problems could be prevented by increasing intake of calcium or vitamin D supplements. The studies published in the British Medical Journal also suggested that such supplements should not be recommended to people.

Lemony Snicket and Lisa Brown Pledge $1 Million to Planned Parenthood

Author of a number of children’s book Lemony Snicket said that he and his wife are donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood. Lemony Snicket whose original name is Daniel Handler, made the announcement this week on his Twitter feed.

Snicket on his Twitter feed, @DanielHandler wrote that the donation to the women’s health care provider is o behalf of him and his wife. He said that they’ve been very fortunate and thought this good fortune should be shared with noble causes.

It is known that the house Republicans in Washington have been trying hard to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood and have threatened a government shutdown over the issue.
They cite Planned Parenthood’s practice of supplying tissue from aborted fetuses for scientific research.

Law Banning Smoking in Vehicle Carrying Kids Active in England, Wales

A law that prohibits smoking in cars carrying children below the age of 18 has came into effect in England and Wales. Law requires people to abide by it and the defaulters could face a penalty of £50.

Police said that initially they will be taking a non-confrontational approach with the defaulter. They said that whenever an under-18 is in the car, smokers will still be liable even if the windows are down or sunroof open. But the law will not apply to people who are driving in a convertible which has the roof down, they said.

There are higher possibilities that the Scottish Parliament will consider banning smoking in cars carrying children in next year. More than 430,000 children are exposed to second-hand smoke in cars each week, according to the British Lung Foundation.
