Adorable Baby Gorilla delivered via Caesarean Section at UK Zoo

A zoo in the UK witnessed the delivery of an adorable baby gorilla via caesarean section. The gorilla took birth on February 12 at Bristol Zoo Gardens after her mother, Kera, displayed signs of a probable serious complication, known as pre-eclampsia, the zoo said.

John Partridge, senior curator of animals, said on the zoo's website that the birth of any gorilla is uncommon and exciting event, but a baby gorilla’s delivery via caesarean section was even more unusual.

Partridge added, “It wasn't a decision that we took lightly -- Kera was becoming quite poorly and we needed to act fast in order to give the best possible treatment to mother and baby, and to avoid the possibility of losing the baby”.

Graphic images on cigarette packs won’t stop smokers from lighting up

Smokers and non-smokers agree that they don’t like graphic images on cigarette packs, but they also think that the pictures still won’t keep them away from lighting up a cigarette.

University of Illinois researchers have discovered that the pictures made people feel as if their freedoms have been infringed on, and in some cases boosted people's smoking habit.

Big warnings, pictures of diseased body parts, and images of people losing lives from smoking-related diseases have reduced smoking rates in nations where they've been placed on cigarette wrappers.

A number of regulations in other nations were coupled with fresh taxes or restrictions, which, as per the researchers, could also have resulted in a fall in cigarette smoking.

London's Royal Free Hospital to treat Nurse who Recovered from Ebola Twice

Royal Free Hospital in London will treat a Scottish nurse who has overcome Ebola twice, prior to another ‘late complication’ she suffered from her last infection from the deadly virus.

On Tuesday, the hospital said in a statement that its infectious diseases team is going to conduct the treatment of Pauline Cafferkey. The nurse has undergone treatment for meningitis in last October that she developed from lingering Ebola virus in her system. She contracted the infection for the first time in 2014 when she was in Sierra Leone.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in some rare cases, Ebola can endure in the body parts that are not covered by the immune system, like within the eye, in semen, in the brain, or in the spinal cord.

CDC’s Zika-Related Warning List includes Two More destinations

On Tuesday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) added two destinations to its list of places facing Zika-related travel warnings.

The CDC has been working with public health officials to monitor for ongoing Zika virus transmission. CDC has placed Trinidad and Tobago and the Marshall Islands into the list of areas with high risk of Zika transmission. The advice given by the CDC is a Level 2 warning that says travelers must ‘Practice Enhanced Precautions’.

The particular regions where Zika virus transmission is ongoing are generally tough to find out and will probably keep on changing with time.

Scientists Uncover Secret behind Strange Ocean Sounds

Marine scientists used underwater microphones, known as hydrophones, to capture the sounds of the deep ocean. Some years ago, scientists found some strange noises captured by hydrophones in the Pacific Ocean. The sound was weak and constant during some times of the day, with intensity a few decibels more than the background level and the normal sound level of the ocean. The strange sound had an intensity of 300 hertz and above, which is beyond the sound intensity of whales other marine mammals.

Scientists Use Fear to Control Raccoons

Raccoons are creating a menace offshore British Columbia in Canada due to the elimination of carnivorous predators like local bears, wolves and cougars, which were killed by humans. These predators actually kept a check over the island raccoons, which are capable of causing extreme damages. Domestic dogs are the only natural predators existing on the majority of the islands.

Island raccoons started coming out in broad daylight for strolling and hunting. The population of coastal animals like crabs, worms and fish is decreasing at a shocking rate. Raccoons partially eat crabs and leave the remaining parts. Ecosystem of the island is facing disturbance due to missing large carnivorous predators.
