Citi’s life insurance unit prices IPO above expectations

Primerica-CitigroupPrimerica Inc., the life insurance business of Citigroup Inc., has priced its IPO above the expected range. This was told by an underwriter, on Thursday, and has been possible because of the larger than expected turnaround for the IPO.

It managed to sell 21.36 million shares with a face value of $15 each. At this rate, it can get $320.4 million. Earlier, it had planned to sell 18 million shares. The value of each share at that time was kept between $12 and $14.

FSA charges seven with insider trading

Financial-Services-Authority001The financial regulator, Financial Services Authority (FSA), has charged seven people of being involved in insider trading. It alleged that these people were involved in the ring that went on to trade which was worth £2.5 million.

The investigations regarding this are still on.

This is not the first time that these seven have been arrested and questioned regarding this issue. Earlier, in July 2008, they were taken into custody by the FSA. Since then, 35 investigators have been studying and investigating the whole issue.

Sensex starts new fiscal on a positive note

SensexThe Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex climbed 164.85 points or 0.94 per cent to 17,693 on the first trading day of the new financial year on strong cues from the global market.

The broad-based NSE nifty on the other hand moved 41.40 points or 0.8 per cent to 5,290.

Despite giving away early gains on back of lower than expected industrial output figures for the month of March, the Sensex gained in the afternoon session with renewed interest shown by investors in stocks of IT, capital goods and metal companies. FMCG stocks, however, ended the day with a sore note.

Essential oils found to have efficient anti-microbials properties

The anti-microbial activity of eight essential oils from plants was tested by study authors Yiannis Samaras and Effimia Eriotou of the Technological Educational Institute of Ionian Islands in Greece and they found that thyme completely eliminated bacteria within 60 minutes.

It was also found that Cinnamon also efficiently fight off a number of strains of bacteria including Staphylococcus species such as meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

French breast implants banned by Sweden

Breast-ImplantsThe country's Medical Products Agency has said that three brands of silicon breast implants are being banned in Sweden because of the possibility they could burst.

The Swedish news agency Tidningarnas Telegrambyra reported on Friday that the action against the implants manufactured by Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) of France follows a decision by French authorities to ban the products in their country.

Some 35,000 to 45,000 European women are estimated to have received the faulty implants but there is no record of how many Swedish women are among those affected.
