Nissan to make electric vehicle in UK
Nissan Motor Co. has informed that it is going to come up with all new electric vehicles soon. The new vehicle will be introduced to the European market first. The company is expecting to launch the model by the year 2013. Nissan is Japan's third largest automaker and it has become one of the leading vehicle manufacturers in the global market as well.
The company has informed that it will make about 50,000 Leafs per year in its UK plant. Nissan has its facility at Sunderland, in northern England. It has also said that it is going to invest $486.2 million ($640 million) in this particular plant. This plant will manufacture batteries for electric vehicles. It will also use its Japan plant for this purpose.
However, as per market experts Nissan is lagging behind the world's largest automaker Toyota Motor Co. The rapid growth of Toyota has made Nissan restructure its tactics.
Hence it has decided to target the electric car segment straight away. Honda Motor Co. is providing gas-electric hybrids that are already popular in Japan and abroad.
