Washington D.C. [US], Oct. 26 : Patients with disseminated advanced cancer who undergo surgery are far more likely to endure long hospital stays and readmissions, referrals to extended care facilities and death, found a recent research.

The study highlights the dilemma that physicians and surgeons face when their terminally ill cancer patients are diagnosed with a condition that may benefit from surgery, such as bowel obstruction, as well as the need for substantive discussions about the risks of surgery and implications on future quality of life.

Tossing eggs with salads augments vitamin E absorption

Washington D.C. [US], Oct. 26 : According to a recent researchconducted at Purdue University, adding whole eggs to a colorful salad boosts the amount of Vitamin E which the body absorbs from the vegetables.

Expert Wayne Campbell said, "Vitamin E is the second-most under-consumed nutrient in the average American diet, which is problematic because this fat-soluble nutrient has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Now consumers can easily improve their diets by adding eggs to a salad that boasts a variety of colorful vegetables."

Another researcher Jung Eun Kim said, "We found Vitamin E absorption was 4- to 7-fold higher when three whole eggs were added to a salad.

Video games with alcohol and smoking content influence teenagers

Washington D.C [India], Oct. 26 : According to a recent study, playing video games with references to alcohol and tobacco, has a deep influence on teenager's minds.

Experts from the UK Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies at The University of Nottingham have carried out the first ever analysis of best-selling video games to find out the extent to which the games include this content.

They also assessed the link between playing the games and drinking and smoking behaviour.

They found that teenagers, who play video games featuring alcohol and tobacco references, appeared to be directly influenced because they were twice as likely to have tried smoking or drinking themselves.
