Orica to spend $A63 million in Botany cleanup

Orica-LogoExplosives, paint and chemicals supplier Orica Ltd. said today that it will have to make a provision of $A63 million in its half yearly results for an environmental cleanup at its site at the Botany Industrial Park, New South Wales.

Orica said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange that the company has taken this decision after studying a report released by environmental consultants on the site in southeast Sydney. In this report Orica found that there were findings of high concentrations of mercury at the Botany location.

NBN finds new chairman in Harrison Young

Stephen-ConroyHarrison Young has been appointed as the new chairman of the national Broadband Network Company. Senator Stephen Conroy announced his appointment today. Young is currently serving as a director of Commonwealth Bank of Australia Ltd.

Young will replace NBN Co chief executive officer, Mike Quigley, as the chairperson.

However, the government said that Mr. Quigley will stay on the board as chief executive and director.

BG Group in an $A60 billion LNG deal with China

BG-GroupBG Group Plc, owner of the Coal Seam Gas fields in Australia, has signed a deal with China's state owned oil and gas company China National Offshore Oil Corp Ltd to provide liquefied natural gas (LNG) for 20 years.

The deal is supposed to be worth $A60 billion. The Federal Government announced the deal today. The Government said that it is the biggest trade deal in the history of Australia so far.

Cook’s ton leads England to 2-0 win over Bangladesh
