India's challenge at French Open ends, Sindhu, Prannoy crash out

Paris [France], Oct.28 : India's hopes at the ongoing French Open Super Series ended after Olympic silver medallist P.V Sindhu and Swiss Open champion H.S Prannoy suffered a straight-games defeat at the hands of their respective opponents here last evening.

World No.8 Sindhu failed to replicate her recent good performances and eventually went down 20-22, 17-21 against HE Bingjiao of China in the second-round women's singles contest that lasted 41 minutes.

Meanwhile, Prannoy made a strong start against fifth-seeded Chou Tien Chen , but capitulated under pressure to end up suffering a 19-21, 16-21 loss in the pre-quarter-final contest that lasted 42 minutes.

Bali [Indonesia], Oct. 28 : The United States has admitted to rebalancing its global security policies with regard to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, as this is determined by recent events taking place in the region.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Manpreet Singh Anand revealed this in remarks at a meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) here on Thursday.

He said, "The Indian Ocean region will increasingly play a critical role in driving the global economy, addressing global issues, and affecting global security."

Defying all odds, Yeasin Pathan preserving 34 Hindu medieval temples

West Midnapur (West Bengal) [India], Oct. 28 : For more than four decades, a retired school peon Mohammad Yeasin Pathan is fighting all odds, indifference and intolerance to preserve and restore 34 Hindu medieval temples near the Kansai river in West Bengal's Midnapore.

The 64-year-old is a resident of Hatihalka village in West Midnapur district and started his journey to save these temples in 1976.

In 1994, Pathan was honoured with 'Kabir Award' by the President of India for promoting communal harmony.

Over reports that local sellers in Sadar Bazaar, the largest wholesale market of household items in India, has complained that Chinese goods sale has dropped by at least 20 percent, Spokesperson and Counsellor for the Chinese Embassy in India, Xie Liyan, said in a statement, "In the long run, boycott will not only hurt Chinese goods sale, but also have negative effect on the India consumers."
