Pak’s new President will be a PPP man, says Zardari
Lahore, June 17 : Dropping enough hints that he has now made up his mind to remove President Pervez Musharraf, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari last evening said that Pakistan would soon have a new President, most probably from the PPP.
“The PPP would soon install its candidate, possibly someone like Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer, in the Presidency,” he said while addressing his partymen at the Governor’s House in Lahore.
Describing the recent long march by lawyers as a “mere carnival”, Zardari said that his party knew better how to launch a mass movement as it had given innumerable sacrifices for the cause of democracy in the country.
Blaming anti-democratic forces for the assassination of his wife and former premier Benazir Bhutto, he said that the President House will soon resound with slogans of “Long Live Bhutto”.
He added that the PPP would avenge her death by changing the system and restoring true democracy in the country. He added that democracy would be restored through dialogue and national reconciliation.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer said that he had opened the doors of Governor’s House for the masses, and added that the arrival of Zardari to Lahore had infused a new vigour in the party workers. (ANI)
