A report has said that to ensure patient safety medical residents should get a five hour sleep break after working for 16 hours. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), in 2003 has set hours for residents where they work no more than 80 hours a week over a four week average, and do no more than a 30 hour straight shift with a 10 hour break for sleep. The latest recommendations by The Institute of Medicine say residents should get a five hour sleep break after working a 16 hour shift to ensure quality of work as well as patient safety.
According to a new review, generic heart drugs are just as good as brand name drugs at a fraction of the cost. The generics have the same active ingredient as their brand-name counterparts, though they may differ in color or shape, and cost anywhere from 30 to 80 % less, despite which some doctors and patients hesitate to use generic drugs preferring brand names.

Current EPS & P/E ratio stood at 75.97 and 2.13 respectively. The share price has seen a 52-week high of Rs 952 and a low of Rs 146.35 on BSE.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will meet Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday evening in the wake of his offer of resignation following the Mumbai terror attacks.
Deshmukh will leave for Delhi after meeting President Prativa Patil, who is currently in Mumbai.
Deshmukh will hold talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi as well as senior leaders including A K Antony, who is in-charge of party affairs of Maharashtra and also Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel.
The discussions on the issue of successor to Deshmukh have gained momentum after these developments.
