Deshmukh to Meet Sonia todayMaharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will meet Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday evening in the wake of his offer of resignation following the Mumbai terror attacks.

Deshmukh will leave for Delhi after meeting President Prativa Patil, who is currently in Mumbai.

Deshmukh will hold talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi as well as senior leaders including A K Antony, who is in-charge of party affairs of Maharashtra and also Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel.

The discussions on the issue of successor to Deshmukh have gained momentum after these developments.

Congress not to "play politics" over terror: PMPrime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday promised that his party, the Congress, would not "play politics" over the issue of terrorism.

While addressing a gathering in Jaipur in Rajasthan, the PM said, all political parties should join hands to curb the menace.

This was decided in a high-level meeting led by state Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty.

Commandos will be deployed in Sealdah and Howrah stations as well as in Kharagpur station and in New Jalpaiguri in north Bengal.

Orissa nun moves HC for shifting TIP venue

The 29-year-old Catholic nun, who was allegedly raped in Kandhamal, has filed a petition in the Orissa High Court for shifting the venue of the Test Identification parade of the accused persons from the riot-hit district.

"The TI Parade may be allowed to be held at New Delhi or at any other place in Orissa, preferably Bhubaneswar or Cuttack. Many criminal elements are roaming free in the area and if she goes to Baliguda Court there is reasonable chance of danger to her life," the petition urged.
