Audi has revealed its XPRIZE rover, the ‘lunar quattro’, whereas study has shown 2014 Indian Ocean space junk’s likely relation with a rocket motor of a 1998 NASA Lunar mission.

The German automobile maker has participated in the Google Lunar XPRIZE, which is a ‘space competition’ wherein privately funded teams from worldwide compete to send and land unmanned rovers on the Moon’s surface by the 31st of December next year.

In a press release last week, Audi unveiled the 35-kilogram rover lunar quattro, which is a product of its collaboration with the Part-Time Scientists team, a Germany-based participant of XPRIZE.

The automobile maker said that many of the components of the rover are composed of high-strength aluminum and is solar-powered.

German car maker Audi has recently announced that in collaboration with Part-Time Scientists it is working to land a privately funded rover on the moon. Part-Time scientists are one of the 16 teams in the competition for the Google Lunar XPRIZE.

The vehicle has been scheduled to be launched into space in 2017 and will travel more than 380,000 km to the moon on a specially designed rocket.

Mission experts said the trip, which will take about five days, will land at the same spot where Apollo 17 landed in 1972, i. e. north of the moon's equator.

Audi will be providing technical support to the Part-Time Scientists in the race to land a privately funded rover on the moon that can travel 500m and transmit high-definition video and images to earth.

Audi has now set its eyes on the moon. It has started working on it together with the Part-Time Scientists, a group of German engineers working within the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition, to transport an unmanned rover onto the moon.

Audi is supporting the Part-Time Scientists with its several fields of technology – from quattro all-wheel drive and lightweight construction to electric mobility and piloted driving.

Luca de Meo, Audi Board Member for sales and marketing, said in a statement that the concept of a privately financed mission to the moon is fascinating.

“And innovative ideas need supporters that promote them. We want to send a signal with our involvement with the Part-Time Scientists and also motivate other partners to contribute their know-how”, Luca de Meo said.

New Delhi - German luxury car maker Audi on Thursday launched the limited edition sports car 'Audi R8 LMX' in India priced at Rs 2.97 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

Claiming that Audi R8 LMX is the the first production car with laser high beam lighting in India, the company said its production run is limited to only 99 vehicles globally.

Highlighting the significance of the new lighting technology, the company said the laser spot offer a higher range of visibility enhancing the safety aspect. The lights are activated at a speed of 60 kmph and above. The laser light spots one laser module per headlight generates a cone of light with twice the range of the all-LED headlight.

The A3 Cabriolet is a 4-seater two door car with a soft top fabric hood which opens and closes in less than 18 seconds, up to a speed of 50km/h.

Google partners with Audi to develop in-car Android infotainment systems

The partnership is expected to be announced next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and its aim is to allow for in-car integration of music and navigation apps currently available on smartphones.
