Zagade reviews progress of developmental projects under JNNURMIn the meeting of heads of different departments on Thursday, Pune Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagde asked them to accelerate the work going on the various developmental projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Zagade reviewed the ongoing projects. Deadlines were also set for various departments for the completion of the development work. PMC is planning to submit new proposals under the JNNURM to union government after completion of ongoing projects.

Developmental projects under JNNURM need approval of the central government as it pays 50 per cent of the project's cost. Out of the rest 50 percent cost, the state pays 20 percent, while 30 percent remaining is paid by the local self-government body, implementing the mission.

Various problems arising in completion of developmental projects were also discussed in the meeting. Lack of sufficient area is the major problem faced by the slum rehabilitation projects.

Zagade said: “There are various development works of roads, sewage treatment and drinking water that are being executed under JNNURM. The departments have been asked to speed up the work and deadlines have been set for completion of each project.”
