T-Wolves ship Foye, Miller to Wizards
Los Angeles - The Minnesota Timberwolves are stockpiling first-round picks for what could be a very active NBA Draft for them.
The Timberwolves agreed to trade guards Randy Foye and Mike Miller to the Washington Wizards late Tuesday night for the No. 5 overall draft pick, along with reserves Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.
The trade would give the Wolves the Nos. 5, 6, 18 and 28th selections, but new team president of basketball operations David Kahn sent a "No comment" text message to the newspaper in response to confirm whether it was a done deal.
With an arsenal of high draft picks, the Timberwolves, who finished 24-58 last season, appear poised to take the spotlight with some heavy wheeling and dealing at the annual draft.
Recent reports have Kahn wanting 2.22-metre defensive-minded centre Hasheem Thabeet out of the University of Connecticut to join front-liners Al Jefferson and Kevin Love.
Thabeet averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocks and was co-Big East player of the year.
If the T-Wolves can't work a deal with Memphis, which is expected to select Thabeet with the second overall pick, flashy playmaking guard Ricky Rubio may be their choice, if a compromise can be worked out on a buyout between the 18-year-old Barcelona native and his Spanish team, DKV Joventut.
Washington is coming off a franchise-matching worst 19-63 record in which All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas sat out most of the season recovering from multiple knee operations.
With the Timberwolves pick yet to be determined, the Wizards appear to have got the best of the deal, surrendering little while adding Foye and Miller.
Foye averaged 16.3 points and 4.3 assists last season, while the sharpshooting Miller put up a career-low 9.9 points per game in his only campaign with Minnesota, after being dealt from Memphis along with Love as part of package deal on 2008 draft night.
