Bogmati turns a favourite tourist destination in Assam

Guwahati, AssamGuwahati, Feb. 18 : Despite being rich in wildlife and having several national parks, Assam could not become a major tourist centre due to militant activities for many years. But now it is trying to bring about a change. Efforts are being made to develop new tourist places such as Bogamati hill area.

Endowed with fascinating natural scenery, Bogamati hill area in particular is nature lovers'' paradise.

National (7-a-side) Rugby Championship kicks off in GuwahatiGuwahati (Assam), Feb. 8 : The second All India (7-a-side) Rugby Championship has begun in Guwahati. Twelve teams are participating in the event.

Teams representing Manipur, West Bengal, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Assam are taking part.

Militants forget victims’ families live a ruined life after blasts

Forty four-year-old Dhiren Kakati died in last month's bomb blast in Guwahati city. He worked with the Indian railways in Guwahati. His untimely death has left a vacuum in the lives of the family members.

Seminar on peace and development in northeast

AssamGuwahati, Feb. 3 : Various members belonging to intelligentsia, peace workers, academicians and social activist groups from different states of the northeast India recently participated in a seminar on issues related to peace and development.

The two-day workshop-cum-seminar had a theme ''Peace Alone Leads to Development and Prosperity''. It was held to provide various representatives from northeastern states, a platform to interact and share views on the futility of violence and discuss how to bring peace in the region.

Republic Day celebrations carried special meaning for people in the northeast

In Manipur's capital Imphal, people joined the celebrations at various places despite the boycott call given by some underground groups. Residents opted to be a part of the Republic day revelry.
