One killed, 15 feared injured in Assam blastGuwahati, Mar 31 : At least one person was killed and 15 others were feared to be injured in a bomb blast that occurred at about 6.00 to 6.15 p. m. at Jyoti Kuchi area in western Guwahati.

The incident occurred during the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee's visit in Assam.

Mukherjee was addressing media at a city hotel in Pan Bazar, about three kilometres from the blast site in Lal Ganesh area, when the bomb blast occurred.

For this purpose, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the upcoming parliament elections.

Talking to reporters here, Apurva Bhattacharjee, Spokesperson of AGP said, "The BJP is also committed to deport the border nationals from the country and seal the borders."

53 militants surrender before the Army in AssamGuwahati, Mar 31 : A total of 53 militants surrendered before the Army in Assam''s Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

These 53 militants included 44 members of the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), three from Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and six of the Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA).

The militants deposited a large number of arms including 44 pistols, five guns, one machine gun and other assorted ammunitions.

Assam Chief Minister Gogoi denies receiving notice from Election CommissionGuwahati, Mar 28 : Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday said he had not received any notice from the Election Commission (EC) for his reported statement concerning mobilisation of resources from the industry.

"The EC has not given me any notice till now. I don't know if it will come later", Gogoi told reporters here.

It was reported that Gogoi had said that he had gone to the tea gardens to collect money from the tea industry for the upcoming general elections.

Anil Majumdar, a journalist and Executive Editor of Aji, an Assamese daily, was shot on point blank range in front of his house in Guwahati, the main city of Assam state. Doctors declared him dead on arrival at the International Hospital in Christian Basti.
