Hyderabad, Sept 12: 12 killed and 50 injured as bus falls into gorge in Andhra PradeshTwelve people were killed and over fifty injured after a tourist bus plunged into a deep gorge last night in Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. 

The mishap happened near Chitwel-Rapur Ghat road on Kadapa-Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore border.

The bus, carrying about 70 passengers, was heading at high speed towards Kodur from Penchalakona. The driver lost control while negotiating a narrow curve.

The accident occurred in the Nellore district about 600 kilometres south-east of state capital Hyderabad on Thursday night.

Police told the IANS news agency that the bus, which was carrying 70 people from an extended family, fell into a 100-foot-deep gorge and got struck in trees.

“During my visit to other countries, I am often asked by women leaders about the programmes taken up by the Andhra Pradesh government,” she said while interacting with members of self-help groups (SHGs) and women beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
