Jio Financial Services Share Price Target at Rs 300: Motilal Oswal Stock Research
Motilal Oswal Financial Services has reiterated its BUY call on Jio Financial Services with a target price of Rs 300, implying 37% upside from Rs 219. The brokerage said the September quarter showed healthy execution, with net interest income up 165% year on year to Rs 680 crore and Jio Credit's loan book rising 22% quarter on quarter to Rs 37,300 crore. Consolidated profit fell 51% to Rs 340 crore as other income dropped, costs rose and joint-venture losses widened, missing estimates by 27%. The house trimmed FY27 earnings by 6.6% but raised FY28, valuing the company on a September 2028 sum-of-the-parts.

Jio Financial Services: Lending Engine Accelerates as Motilal Oswal Holds Rs 300 Target
Jio Credit's book swelled 22% in a single quarter and core income more than doubled, but a thinner other-income line and heavier investment spending pulled headline profit sharply lower. The brokerage argues the operating story, not the reported bottom line, is what investors should be pricing.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BUY | Rs 219 | Rs 300 | 37% | Rs 209-317 | Rs 1,44,620 crore | 0.9x FY27E P/BV |
The stock sits barely 5% above its 52-week low and has underperformed the broader market by 21% over 12 months, which explains why Motilal Oswal frames the quarter as an entry point rather than a disappointment.
A Quarter of Two Halves
Above the operating line, Jio Financial beat the house comfortably. Net interest income rose 165% to Rs 680 crore, 18% ahead of the estimate, as lending scaled. Below it, the picture soured. Other income fell 28% to Rs 442 crore, including investment income of about Rs 160 crore against Rs 180 crore a year earlier, while operating costs jumped 91% to Rs 548 crore, 14% above forecast. Employee expenses climbed 55% to Rs 150 crore.

| Net profit | 695.0 | 830.3 | 340.4 | -51% | -27% |
Context matters here. The year-ago quarter carried a large dividend receipt, so on the house's like-for-like basis, which excludes that dividend, operating profit grew 85% to Rs 570 crore and pre-tax profit rose 51% to Rs 490 crore. Associate losses of Rs 43.9 crore also widened from Rs 19.1 crore. Reliance Services and Holdings is now fully consolidated rather than booked as an associate.
Jio Credit: The Book Is Loading Fast
The lending arm remains the heart of the investment case. Assets under management rose 22% sequentially to Rs 37,300 crore, while disbursements grew 98% year on year to Rs 13,100 crore. Net interest income reached Rs 300 crore, up about 115%, and profit after tax climbed roughly 140% to Rs 120 crore. Funding costs barely moved, at 7.08% against 7.07%, and more than 70% of the book is floating-rate, so rate changes pass through quickly.

The book is fully secured and split almost evenly between home loans and business lending, though fresh flows lean heavily toward corporate and SME credit.

The Bank of America catalyst: In August, Bank of America signed a joint-venture agreement to acquire up to 49.9% of Jio Credit. Motilal Oswal expects the infusion to widen capital headroom and now values only JFSL's 50% stake in the lender. For the lending arm alone, it models AUM compounding at 89% and profit at 190% a year over FY26-FY28, with return on assets of 2.4% and return on equity of 8.8% by FY28.

| Jio Insurance Broking | Premiums facilitated Rs 350 crore | Not disclosed | Conversion up 55% QoQ |
The payments unit is deliberately shedding low-quality volume to lift its net processing margin to 14bp, from 9bp a year ago. Investors beyond the top 30 cities supply 40% of the AMC's retail AUM, a GIFT City global fund is due this quarter, and Jio Allianz General Insurance is in advanced stages of regulatory approval and a life-insurance venture is under a non-binding agreement.
Valuation: One Large Star, Seven Planets
The Rs 300 target is a September 2028 sum-of-the-parts, and one component dominates it. The 6.1% stake in Reliance Industries, valued at the house's own target for that stock less a 10% holding discount, contributes Rs 181 a share, or 60% of the total. Jio Credit, at 2.5 times book, adds Rs 59. Insurance manufacturing, wealth, broking and marketplace businesses are assigned no value because they remain in incubation.
SoTP orbit: circle area proportional to value per share (Rs)
| Component | Value (Rs crore) | Rs per share | Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| RIL stake via RIIHL and RSHL (6.1%) | 1,15,200 | 181 | House TP on RIL, 10% holding discount |
| Jio Credit (50%) | 37,900 | 59 | 2.5x Sep'28E P/BV |
| Jio standalone | 14,000 | 23 | 1x Sep'28E P/BV |

| Payment Solutions, AMC (50%), Insurance Broking, Payments Bank | 12,400 | 20 | 5x sales; 8% of AUM; 25x EPS; 1.8x P/BV |
| Target value | 1,89,800 | 300 | Sep'28E sum-of-the-parts |
The concentration cuts both ways. Investors buying Jio Financial at 0.9 times FY27 book are, in large part, buying a discounted wrapper on Reliance, with an option on a fast-growing lender attached.
What Changed in the Forecasts
| Rs crore | FY27E old | FY27E new | Change | FY28E old | FY28E new | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Net interest income | 2,380 | 2,410 | +1.2% | 3,850 | 4,280 | +11.1% |
| Other income | 2,950 | 2,720 | -7.6% | 3,900 | 3,670 | -6.0% |

| Net profit | 2,300 | 2,150 | -6.6% | 3,420 | 3,630 | +6.1% |
The FY27 cut reflects heavier provisioning; the FY28 upgrade reflects a richer interest-income run rate. Overall, Motilal Oswal models consolidated profit compounding at 54% between FY26 and FY28, from Rs 1,530 crore to Rs 3,630 crore, with earnings per share rising from Rs 2.4 to Rs 5.3 and consolidated return on equity recovering from 3.3% in FY27 to 6.7% in FY28. Book value per share is projected at Rs 255 by FY28.
Editor's Note
- Page one compares September AUM with "Rs 30,700 crore in Sep'26"; the quarterly table dates that figure to June 2026.
- The RSHL consolidation date is given as both April 30 and April 29, 2026, and the FY27 EPS cut as both 6.6% and 6.5%.
- CASA accounts are said to be up about 38% year on year, but the table's 30 lakh to 40 lakh implies about 33%.
- The sum-of-the-parts total of Rs 1,89,800 crore yields Rs 300 a share on roughly 633 crore shares. The front page lists 660.3 crore shares and the FY27E model 685.3 crore; on the latter, the value works out to about Rs 277 (TopNews calculation).
- Not errors: the 85% and 51% growth figures exclude last year's dividend, and the 190% profit growth and 8.8% RoE refer to Jio Credit alone.
Risks Worth Watching
Built from the report's content; no risk list is printed
- Reliance dependence: 60% of the target rests on the RIL stake, so any de-rating of Reliance flows directly into the valuation.
- Asset-quality normalisation: the house models gross NPAs rising from 0.03% in FY26 to 1.64% by FY28 as the young book seasons.
- Cost and venture drag: opex growth of 91% and widening associate losses could keep reported profit volatile while incubated businesses consume capital.
- Thin returns: consolidated RoE of 3.3% in FY27E leaves the case resting on growth delivery.
- Deal and regulatory timing: the Bank of America investment and the insurance licences remain pending, and proposed insurance-sector rules are still in draft.
