Anna Hazare visits Shanti Kunj, starts Jan Jagran Yatra

Anna-HazareHaridwar, May 14 : Social activist Anna Hazare visited Shanti Kunj here, the headquarters of the Gayatri Parivar, and began his Jan Jagran Yatra for Uttarakhand Tuesday.

Speaking at the Mrityunjaya auditorium at the Dev Sanskrati University here, Hazare said he felt "charged" after visiting the campus and called for a change in the system, rather than mere change of power from one party to another.

Urging people to replace all elected representatives who did not work for the welfare of the people, Hazare said the time had come for a corruption-free and people-oriented political system.


Hazare to begin nationwide tour Sunday

Anna-HazareMumbai, March 30 : Anna Hazare will embark on a year-long, all-India tour from Sunday to campaign for a stronger Lokpal bill, electoral reforms and other issues he has been raising for the past few years, an aide said here.

The first phase of the nationwide tour, planned since a year, will kick off from Amritsar in Punjab, and then to Haryana and Uttaranchal. In these three states, the 75-year old Hazare is scheduled to address meetings in at least three dozen cities and towns, culminating in Haridwar on April 17.

Anna-Hazare4New Delhi/ Patna, Jan 31 : The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the draft of the proposed Lokpal Bill with major amendments suggested by the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, based on recommendations from various political parties.

However, ant-graft activist Anna Hazare rejected the new draft too, saying the bill proposed by the Cabinet is useless as it is unable to eradicate corruption from the country.

The Lokpal Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha during the winter session of Parliament in 2011, but ran into hurdles in the Rajya Sabha.

He said he had originally decided to fast for three days until Thursday but his illness had forced him to skip food for the past four days.

The Bombay High Court (HC) has asked team Anna to carry on their protest from their homes after it did not accept the petition to intervene in the matter of allotment of MMRDA ground for three-day fast in Mumbai.

Team Anna has asked the court to direct the state authorities to provide MMRDA ground for free or at confessional rates for fast from December 27. The HC responded by telling the team to "sit and protest from your homes".
