Paris conference expected to produce agreements on battling climate change

From November 30, the United Nations climate conference will start in Paris. The meeting will be attended by as many as 40,000 officials and heads of different nations. Though our hearts go to what tragic incident has happened in Paris, it is also important to ensure that climate change remains as the global economic agenda for the next 15 years.

Experts said that the Paris meeting would be a conclusion to many such discussions on climate change. It is expected that the conference will result into agreements on battling climate change. In the meeting, one of the aspects, which would be surely discussed, is economic impact of the measures to be taken.

According to the UN’s climate chief, Christiana Figueres, main aim of the meeting is to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the industrial revolution.

It has been found that the European Union has said that it will reduce emissions by 40% by 2030. As per the estimates of the Stanford Energy Modeling Forum, in order to achieve the target the EU’s GDP will decline by 1.6% in 2030.

Mexico is by far at the top when it comes to placing strongest climate legislation of any developing nation. It has promised to cut greenhouse gas and emissions by 40%. China has promised to reduce its CO2 emissions by at least 60%.
