CERN Scientists to Test a New Particle Model

CERN scientists have stated that they want to use the newly-upgraded Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to ‘break’ their robust theories.

The scientists said that they will try to test a new model of particle physics that will be helpful in the explanation of the mysterious dark matter origin, which constitutes over 84% of the total matter in the universe.

Dark matter is one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of the universe. Although the presence of this matter can be inferred from the gravitational pull that it exerts on the visible matter, its detection is impossible as it does not emit or absorb any radiation.

Millions of Modern Asian Men Descended from 11 Powerful Dynastic Leaders

A new study conducted by geneticists from the University of Leicester has revealed that millions of modern Asian men have descended from Mongolian warlord Genghis Khan and 10 other powerful dynastic leaders.

According to reports, the researchers from the university based in Leicester had examined male-specific Y chromosome in over 5,000 men from Asia belonging to about 127 populations. The Y chromosome, which is passed to son from father, is very rare. The researchers found 11 types of Y-chromosome that were common across the samples. After that, the researchers studied the histories of the Y-chromosome types.

Obama’s Health-Care Law to cost substantially less than Previous Estimates

Five years ago, President Obama’s health-care law was passed and since then, it has faced severe criticism. On Monday, congressional budget officials gave good news that the law will cost taxpayers considerably less than previous estimates.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said that it is not expected on insurers’ part to charge Americans quite much for coverage. Also, the government will save on subsidies for low and moderate income families.

Another announced made by the CBO was that companies are not cancelling health insurance policies to a level that was considered earlier this year. The health-care law will cost $142 billion to taxpayers, which is less than what was estimated in January.

No Association between Kid’s Asthma and Maternal SSRIs in Pregnancy: Study

A recent population-based study, led by a famous epidemiologist Dr. Xiaoqin Liu in Denmark, has revealed that maternal depression and anxiety are not associated to an increased possibility of childhood asthma.

The study stated that the kids whose depressed mothers never took antidepressants during pregnancy don’t have an increased risk of childhood asthma.

Xiaoqing Liu, MD, section for epidemiology, department of public health at Aarhus University in Denmark, and colleagues, confirmed that when the analyses was restricted to children born to mothers with depression, maternal antidepressant use did not increase asthma risk in offspring (HR 1.00, 95% CI 0.93-1.08).

US Dairy Farmers Giving Their Cows Illegal Antibiotics, Reports FDA

A latest FDA report revealed that a few US dairy farmers are giving their cows some drugs. The presence of illegal antibiotics in milk, as shown by the report, has raised concerns that some farmers are not following food safety laws by giving cows drugs that routine tests cannot easily detect.

NPR reported that milk meant for commercial sale is tested for six commonly used antibiotics. It also told that any shipment that tests positive for any of those antibiotics is barred from entering the supermarket for ever.

Due to this strictness, farmers use antibiotics on dairy cows only when the cows are unhealthy and vet recommends it. When any cow is given antibiotics then milk production of that cow is put on hold.
