Taxi companies sue Uber over misleading people through ads

More than a dozen California cab companies charged a lawsuit against Uber Technologies Inc. over misleading advertisements related to the safety provided by the company. According to the complaint filed by Yellow Cab Co. and other operators in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Santa Barbara, the company gives the wrong impression about the background checks it employs for screening of its drivers.

Uber, an American international company headquartered in San Francisco, California, generated $1.2 billion in December at a valuation of $40 billion. The company has been criticized a lot in some cities over its app-based, on- demand transportation service, which used drivers with no taxi or limousine licenses.

Blackberry in Collaboration with IBM and Samsung launches ‘Secutablet’

Secusmart, a Blackberry-owned company, has recently partnered with IBM and Samsung in order to create a new, secure tablet. The tablet, named Secutablet, is based on the Samsung galaxy 10.5 and runs on Samsung hardware, the firm revealed.

Secusmart further said that the additional security offered by the new tablet aims at businesses and governments. But it said that some less protected social media and video platforms can also be used on the device.

The Secutablet which is also compatible with Blackberry 10 is presently undergoing security certification at the German Federal Office for Information Security. Also, IBM's app wrapping technology has provided the new tablet with extra layers of security.

Sharp is eyeing to cut 6,000 jobs this year

Japanese consumer electronics company Sharp is again planning to lay off employees both at home and abroad divisions as the firm witnessed more losses in the fiscal year ending March 31.

According to Japan's Nikkei newspaper, the electronics giant would cut around 6,000 jobs, half of which would be in Japan through early retirement while the rest would be overseas, especially in the US.

The report about layoffs came as Sharp was expected to post a net loss of 200 billion yen ($1.65 billion) for the current financial year that will end this month. This would be the third annual loss in four years on the back of price competition with Chinese and South Korea rivals.

Apple to Join 29 other Dow Jones Industrial Average stocks

Technology gaint Apple will join Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) stocks after the close of trading March 18. The maker of iPhone and iPad will replace AT&T, which is a Dow member for nearly 100 years.

DJIA, which is also called Dow 30, is a stock market index and one of several indices created by Wall Street Journal editor and Dow Jones & Company co-founder Charles Dow.

The index was created in 1896 and is based on the share prices of the 30 companies in the average. Since DJIA comprises only 30 firms, the change of just one or two components in the index can make a major difference in the metrics for the entire index.

Rovio pins its Hopes on 3D Movie Project to Re-grow

On Thursday, Finnish developer and publisher Rovio Entertainment Limited said that a new 3D movie project could help the video game developer to return to growth. Earlier, a more than 70% profit drop had given signs that the company’s Angry Birds brand is losing its appeal.

Rovio, video games and entertainment company headquartered in Espoo, has yet to repeat the success of its famous game which became the top paid mobile application of all the time after the game’s launch about six years ago.

Amputee files report against Woman for Wrongly Parking at Her Spot

A humble request to ask someone not to park in a spot reserved for Ohio woman with a prosthetic leg drew a surprising reply.

Ashley Brady, 26, of Miamisburg, lost her right leg in an accident last year, reported CBS Columbus affiliate WBNS-TV.

They further told that Ashley has now learned to walk again with the prosthetic limb, but she was facing some trouble negotiating her apartment complex's parking lot in winter conditions.

Therefore, she asked the complex to get her a spot near her unit. Few days later, Brady found someone else parking in the spot allotted to her.
